Remember Sully’s Quest
Dr. Sarah "Sully" Sullivan's mission, central to her character and crucial for every writer crafting her story, is a relentless pursuit to uncover ancient doomsday prophecies that she believes hold the key to preventing a modern Armageddon.
As a distinguished professor of Archaeology at Tufts University and an expert in symbology, and she and her father William’s revelation of the long-forgotten Prophecy of Templar Mystic, Bernard of Clairvaux (see Prologue and history section of this website), she is acutely aware of the dire warning signs in our current era: escalating climate catastrophes, emerging viral threats, the uncharted advancements in AI, and the ever-looming specter of war. Sully is convinced that the answers to these contemporary menaces lie hidden in the annals of the past. Her journey is not just an academic endeavor; it is a desperate, high-stakes quest driven by a deep-seated empathy and a commitment to knowledge.
Writers must consistently portray Sully as a character whose actions and decisions are fueled by this profound belief. Every twist in her story, every challenge she faces, must reflect her unwavering resolve to connect the forgotten wisdom of ancient civilizations with the pressing needs of the present, all in a bid to steer humanity away from the precipice of its own making and towards a path of enlightenment and preservation.
The Tricennial Nexus Cycle
In this book, Sully discovers the answers to her late father's notion he titled, The Tricennial Nexus Cycle. This posited that for some strange reason, natural and manmade disasters such as wars, famines, and disease were cyclical. They happened, on average, every 33 years. Why? It was/is Sully's job to find out before the next one occurs. What Sully finally uncovers (in Book 9) is an ancient codex and astrolabe that unravels the mysteries of the Tricennial Nexus Cycle. This cycle, as Sully uncovers, is primarily influenced by a comet, with ensuing ripple effects across historical, celestial, sociological, cultural, and religious domains.
The concept of the Tricennial Nexus Cycle, first proposed by Sully's late father, William the III, presents a compelling case for the interconnectedness of celestial events and earthly phenomena. Her discovery of the codex and astrolabe—ancient instruments of astronomical and navigational significance—provides key insights into the cycle's origins and effects.
Central to the hypothesis is the periodic return of a specific comet, Comet 55P/Tempel-Tuttle, the parent body of the Leonid meteor shower, which has an orbital period of about 33 years. Identified through the codex and astrolabe and recalled by Sully from her father's incessant believe that it might have been celestial born, this comet, with a 33-year orbital cycle, aligns with historical patterns of significant global events. Sully is now convinced that this celestial body's influence extends beyond mere observation, impacting Earth's environmental and sociological patterns of wars, political shifts, and societal transformations that seem to occur in sync with this 33-year celestial rhythm. The writings in the codex echo the theories of historians like Arnold J. Toynbee regarding cyclical patterns in human civilization and the sociological theories of Karl Mannheim, suggesting a generational cycle of approximately 33 years, marked by the emergence of new societal norms and ideologies.
The codex and astrolabe, adorned with symbols from various cultures, also points to the number 33's significance across different religious and cultural contexts. In Christianity, for instance, the age of Jesus Christ at his crucifixion is traditionally considered 33, a number symbolizing transformation and rebirth—a theme recurrent in the cycle.
Environmentally, Sully realizes the Pacific Decadal Oscillation's phases also align with the comet's cycle. These phases significantly impact global weather patterns, suggesting an environmental component to the Tricennial Nexus Cycle. As well.
Prologue
In the shadowed corners of an ancient library, veiled in the dust of centuries and heavy with the echoes of history, Dr. Sarah "Sully" Sullivan and her late father, William III, unearthed a secret that would forever alter the course of their lives. Hidden among forgotten tomes lay a cryptic artifact, as large as a weighty volume, its surface a canvas of mysterious symbols. The Ouroboros, a serpent in eternal pursuit of its tail, encircled the Tree of Life, its branches and roots ensnared in runic inscriptions. These runes whispered of natural disasters—earthquakes, floods, and fires—a mirror to the calamities escalating in their own time.
Yet, beneath this surface lay something far more ancient. Utilizing the university's electron microscope, Sully and her father uncovered the long-forgotten Prophecy of Templar Mystic, Jean de Vézelay. Dating back to 1099, this omen presented a haunting vision of the future, strikingly similar to contemporary times. It foretold a world devastated by societal decay, moral collapse, and environmental destruction. In this future, Vézelay foretells multitudes of "Towers of Babel," portending the internet and rapidly advancing AI, symbolizing uncontrolled urbanization and technological advancement and neglecting the balance of nature. Vézelay's prophecy painted a picture of a humanity pushed to the brink by hunger and cold, reflecting current struggles with poverty, climate change, and addiction.
But within Vézelay's cryptic words lay a glimmer of hope — a suggestion of a hidden key to avert the looming apocalypse, a solution buried within the annals of time, waiting for those who knew where to look.
For Sully, this was not merely an academic milestone; it was a stark awakening. The ancient prophecy mirrored the dangerous path her own world was treading, fueling her with an unquenchable thirst to decode these enigmas. Thus, the Doom Hunter was born, a relentless seeker of truth, determined to unearth the answers concealed in history's shadows, and prevent the cataclysm foretold by the Templars.
Synopsis:
All roads lead to Rosslyn Chapel in Scotland. Rumored to be the Grail's final resting place, this sanctuary holds more than just architectural marvels. As Sully deciphers the symbols adorning the chapel, she unearths the sixth Codex and clues that could lead her to the Grail itself.
The Lonely Arrival:
Arriving alone at Rosslyn Chapel, the weight of her mission sits heavily on Sully's shoulders. The tranquility of the chapel is disrupted when she encounters a mysterious figure, Alaric, who's been studying the Templar symbols carved into the chapel’s stones. Their initial meeting is fraught with tension, but when Sully shares her discoveries from the Codices, Alaric reveals he’s been waiting for someone like her, guided by an ancient prophecy.
Alaric:
Alaric, is a figure of scholarly dedication and mysterious allure. He is a man in his late fifties, embodying a lifetime of dedicated research into the Templars' enigmatic history. His appearance is that of a seasoned scholar: slightly stooped, with a face lined by years of intense study, and eyes that hold a flicker of obsession. His hair, peppered with gray, is often unkempt, reflecting his single-minded focus on his research.
Alaric's attire is simple yet dignified, typical of a man whose life is devoted to the pursuit of ancient knowledge rather than worldly concerns. He is frequently seen in a well-worn tweed jacket, with pockets invariably filled with notes and artifacts pertinent to his studies.
His motivation for aiding Sully is driven by his belief in a Templar prophecy, which he has devoted his life to understanding. He sees in Sully's discoveries from the Codices the crucial keys to unlocking the Templars' secrets, which he believes hold profound implications for the modern world. Alaric is not driven by personal glory or wealth but by a deep-seated need to uncover and share the truth he believes is hidden within the Templar legacy. His ultimate goal is to find the Grail, not as a treasure, but as a symbol and vessel of profound historical and spiritual significance.
The Scottish Highlands Skirmishes:
Alaric, with his deep understanding of the chapel and its mysteries, becomes an invaluable ally. The duo soon finds themselves in a multi-front battle as The Order, led by Father Damien, establishes a perimeter around the chapel, seeking to trap them inside. Unknown to Sully, Alaric, and The Order, Kadir (antagonist from Book 7) makes his dramatic return, using guerrilla tactics to disrupt The Order’s operations from the rugged Scottish Highlands.
Father Damien's team engages in small, intense skirmishes with Kadir’s forces, with both sides employing tactical maneuvers in the craggy terrains. Meanwhile, the distraction allows Sully and Alaric to continue their exploration of the chapel.
Kadir's Betrayal:
As they inch closer to the Grail, Sully and Alaric encounter Kadir in the inner sanctum of the chapel. Their reunion is tense. Kadir reveals he's been tracking another artifact that could complement the power of the Grail and believes Sully's discovery could lead him to it. As information is exchanged, Kadir's ulterior motives become apparent.
The Battle in Rosslyn Chapel:
Father Damien and his elite guards breach the chapel's defenses, leading to a standoff. Kadir, revealing his true colors, temporarily aligns with Sully and Alaric for mutual survival. The chapel becomes a battleground: Kadir's combat prowess, Father Damien's tactical mind, and the combined knowledge of Sully and Alaric regarding the chapel's secrets.
Hidden traps within the chapel, known only to Sully and Alaric, become their defense. As Damien’s forces push forward, they activate them, turning the tide. However, in a twist, Kadir turns on them, intending to seize the Codex. The ensuing battle is a mix of combat and cunning, with Sully using a Templar relic to incapacitate Kadir, and Alaric leveraging the chapel's architecture against the intruders.
Sully's Narrow Escape:
With Kadir temporarily out of action, Father Damien sees an opening, launching a final assault. Just as things seem bleak for Sully and Alaric, a series of explosions rock the chapel. Unknown allies (to be introduced in the next book) have intervened, creating a diversion. Using a secret escape route known only from the Codices, Sully and Alaric flee Rosslyn Chapel, leaving behind a defeated Kadir and a furious Father Damien.
Twist Setup One:
During the initial exploration of the chapel, Sully uncovers several portraits of past guardians of the chapel’s secrets. One portrait, dated hundreds of years ago, bears an uncanny resemblance to Alaric. His knowledge of the chapel's inner workings, including its secret escape routes and traps, is unusually profound.
Major Twist One - Alaric's Timeless Legacy:
Confronting him about the portrait, Alaric reveals that he's not the person in the portrait, but rather a descendant of a long line of protectors of Rosslyn’s secrets. Every generation, one guardian is chosen to safeguard the chapel's mysteries. These protectors undergo rigorous training from childhood, imbibing knowledge passed down through the ages. The resemblance in the portraits is a family trait, a lineage that's remained pure to ensure the continuity of the guardianship. This revelation cements the trust between Sully and Alaric, knowing they share a common goal.
Twist Setup Two:
Throughout their exploration of Rosslyn Chapel, Sully becomes increasingly reliant on Alaric. His insights, combined with her deciphering skills, prove invaluable. They grow close, and a bond forms between them, reinforced by shared experiences and dangers. But as the climax approaches, and the Grail seems almost within grasp, Alaric becomes noticeably anxious and evasive.
Major Twist Two - The Betrayal for the Greater Good:
In the final confrontation in the inner sanctum, after the dust has settled from the battles with Kadir and Father Damien's forces, Alaric makes a sudden move, snatching the newly discovered Codex from Sully's hands. He reveals that his primary allegiance isn’t just to protect Rosslyn’s secrets but also to prevent them from being exposed to the world. He believes the power and knowledge the Grail offers are too immense for any one person or group. By taking the Codex, he's fulfilling his duty as a guardian – ensuring the Grail’s mysteries remain hidden.
Feeling betrayed and torn between her mission and the bond she formed with Alaric, Sully is left at a crossroads as Alaric disappears with the Codex, leaving behind more questions than answers. The stage is set for future confrontations, with the lines between allies and adversaries blurred. The quest for the Grail becomes even more personal for Sully, fueled not just by curiosity but also by the sting of betrayal.
Sully's Hidden Trump Card:
While Alaric’s betrayal stuns Sully, her experience in navigating the treacherous world of Templar and Masonic secrets has made her cautious and forethinking. Early on, when Alaric first guided her through the chapel's myriad secrets, Sully had discreetly taken impressions of several ancient keys she found within the chapel, including the one Alaric used to access the Codex's resting place.
Using her knowledge as a cryptographer and her experience with ancient relics, Sully crafts a replica of the key. When night descends upon Rosslyn Chapel, she returns, navigating its labyrinthine passageways. Following the path she'd walked with Alaric, she reaches the chamber where the Codex was held. The pedestal is empty, but her keen observational skills discern a clue: a series of symbols etched faintly on the chamber's floor, a hidden compartment mechanism.
Inserting the replicated key and twisting it in a sequence that the symbols suggest, the pedestal rotates, revealing another hidden compartment below. Inside, she finds the Codex. Alaric, it seems, hid it once more after their confrontation, intending to retrieve it later when the coast was clear.
The discovery
But there is more deep inside the pedestal. In addition to the Codex, she finds an intricately crafted astrolabe, its surfaces etched with symbols that mirror those on the Codex. This astrolabe, a tool used by ancient astronomers and navigators, suggests a celestial aspect to the Templar secrets.
Studying the astrolabe in conjunction with the Codex, Sully deciphers that the Templars had knowledge of a previously unknown astronomical event, one that could significantly impact Earth. This revelation is not just historical; it carries implications for the present day. The Templars had charted a celestial body, possibly a comet, on a long orbit that intersects with Earth's path. The timing of its return, calculated from the astrolabe and Codex, aligns with the current era.
Sully knows all of this quickly because of her father’s discovery years ago, which started her long quest. William had a clue that the Templars knew of something celestial that was happening and that celestial object if it could be found, was the key. Now, the story comes around full circle. This is what her father had been searching for. The missing piece of the puzzle.
The Templars weren't just guarding treasure or religious relics; they were the keepers of a potentially catastrophic secret with the power to alter the course of human history.
When aligned with the ancient astrolabe, she sees a startling correlation between celestial cycles and periods of human conflict. The mysterious celestial object's approach toward Earth seems to be inextricably linked to escalating cycles of violence, wars, famines, and destruction throughout history.
This cycle appears to recur in significant intervals: the period between the Crusades (starting around 1096) and the subsequent major wars; The Thirty Years' War (1618-1648); The Napoleonic Wars in the early 19th century; World War I (1914-1918) and World War II (1939-1945), Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Ukraine, also fit into this pattern, with each conflict escalating in severity and global impact.
The Codex suggests that each time this celestial object approaches Earth, the severity of global conflicts intensifies. Sully calculates that these intervals are shortening, and the celestial body is drawing nearer with each cycle. Shockingly, according to her quick calculations and the predictions of the Codex, the next approach is anticipated in 2030. Given the pattern of escalating violence and destruction with each cycle, this imminent approach could herald an event of catastrophic proportions, potentially amounting to an Armageddon-like scenario.
The ultimate twist
As Sully scrutinizes the Codex's final pages, she discovers a meticulously drawn map of the Holy Land, overlaid with an array of cryptic symbols and lines that form a distinct pattern. Intrigued, she notices that these symbols correlate with ancient Templar and Masonic signs, suggesting a hidden network of sacred sites. Among these symbols, one stands out: a unique insignia resembling a key, positioned near the historic city of Jerusalem and Montfort Castle.
Montfort Castle, nestled in the western Galilee region, was a principal fortress of the Teutonic Knights in the Holy Land. This castle, with its rich Templar history, provides the perfect factual setting for Sully's discovery.
Accompanying this map is the last bit: a fragment of a prophecy, inscribed in archaic Latin, hinting at a ritual that could either unleash or prevent the foretold event, suggesting that the Templars believed the 2030 event could be a duality of apocalypse and enlightenment—a global Rapture. This manuscript purportedly contains rituals and the locations of sacred sites key to either triggering or averting the impending event. This clue propels Sully into her next quest: to decipher these secrets and potentially shape humanity's destiny.
Antagonists:
Father Damien:
Description: Father Damien, draped in the traditional robes of an ancient religious sect, is a tall and imposing figure. His steel-gray eyes betray no emotion, but behind them lies a sharp, tactical mind. His association with The Order is not out of loyalty but a fervent belief that he is chosen to protect the world from the potential havoc the Grail's power might unleash.
Motivation:
Father Damien believes that the Templars, in their hubris, have hidden away the Grail not just to protect it but to also prevent the apocalypse it could herald. Having studied ancient prophecies, Damien is convinced that if the Grail falls into the wrong hands, it would be the key to a series of cataclysmic events. As a result, his actions, though aggressive and sometimes brutal, come from a place of genuine fear and a desire to safeguard humanity. Every move he makes against Sully is to prevent what he sees as an impending doomsday scenario.
Kadir Al-Rashid:
Description: Kadir, having survived his confrontation in "The Constantinople Quest," has only become more relentless. He carries the scars from their previous encounter, both physical and psychological. These scars serve as a constant reminder of his failures and further fuel his obsession.
Motivation:
After his defeat in Constantinople, Kadir’s motivations have shifted. No longer just a seeker of power or revenge against Sully, he's now consumed by a deep-seated desire for validation and to rewrite his legacy. The artifact he's tracking, which complements the Grail, represents a shot at redemption in his eyes. If he can find it and harness its power, he believes he can emerge from the shadows of his past failures, proving to himself and his detractors that he's still a force to be reckoned with. Every move against Sully is personal, a dance of pride, ambition, and a desperate need to reclaim his lost honor.
Connection to Book 10:
The close call at Rosslyn Chapel and the unexpected alliance with Alaric lead Sully to confront the true depth of the Templar's mysteries. The clues she has gathered now point her to the ancient prophecies of the Rapture at Montfort Castle in the Holy Land.
