Remember Sully’s Quest

Dr. Sarah "Sully" Sullivan's mission, central to her character and crucial for every writer crafting her story, is a relentless pursuit to uncover ancient doomsday prophecies that she believes hold the key to preventing a modern Armageddon.

As a distinguished professor of Archaeology at Tufts University and an expert in symbology, and she and her father William’s revelation of the long-forgotten Prophecy of Templar Mystic, Bernard of Clairvaux (see Prologue and history section of this website), she is acutely aware of the dire warning signs in our current era: escalating climate catastrophes, emerging viral threats, the uncharted advancements in AI, and the ever-looming specter of war. Sully is convinced that the answers to these contemporary menaces lie hidden in the annals of the past. Her journey is not just an academic endeavor; it is a desperate, high-stakes quest driven by a deep-seated empathy and a commitment to knowledge.

Writers must consistently portray Sully as a character whose actions and decisions are fueled by this profound belief. Every twist in her story, every challenge she faces, must reflect her unwavering resolve to connect the forgotten wisdom of ancient civilizations with the pressing needs of the present, all in a bid to steer humanity away from the precipice of its own making and towards a path of enlightenment and preservation.

The Tricennial Nexus Cycle

In Book 9, Sully discovers the answers to her late father's notion he titled, The Tricennial Nexus Cycle. This posited that for some strange reason, natural and manmade disasters such as wars, famines, and disease were cyclical. They happened, on average, every 33 years. Why? It was/is Sully's job to find out before the next one occurs. What Sully finally uncovers (in Book 9) is an ancient codex and astrolabe that unravels the mysteries of the Tricennial Nexus Cycle. This cycle, as Sully uncovers, is primarily influenced by a comet, with ensuing ripple effects across historical, celestial, sociological, cultural, and religious domains.

The concept of the Tricennial Nexus Cycle, first proposed by Sully's late father, William the III, presents a compelling case for the interconnectedness of celestial events and earthly phenomena. Her discovery of the codex and astrolabe—ancient instruments of astronomical and navigational significance—provides key insights into the cycle's origins and effects.

Central to the hypothesis is the periodic return of a specific comet, Comet 55P/Tempel-Tuttle, the parent body of the Leonid meteor shower, which has an orbital period of about 33 years. Identified through the codex and astrolabe and recalled by Sully from her father's incessant believe that it might have been celestial born, this comet, with a 33-year orbital cycle, aligns with historical patterns of significant global events. Sully is now convinced that this celestial body's influence extends beyond mere observation, impacting Earth's environmental and sociological patterns of wars, political shifts, and societal transformations that seem to occur in sync with this 33-year celestial rhythm. The writings in the codex echo the theories of historians like Arnold J. Toynbee regarding cyclical patterns in human civilization and the sociological theories of Karl Mannheim, suggesting a generational cycle of approximately 33 years, marked by the emergence of new societal norms and ideologies.

The codex and astrolabe, adorned with symbols from various cultures, also points to the number 33's significance across different religious and cultural contexts. In Christianity, for instance, the age of Jesus Christ at his crucifixion is traditionally considered 33, a number symbolizing transformation and rebirth—a theme recurrent in the cycle.

Environmentally, Sully realizes the Pacific Decadal Oscillation's phases also align with the comet's cycle. These phases significantly impact global weather patterns, suggesting an environmental component to the Tricennial Nexus Cycle. As well.

Prologue

In the shadowed corners of an ancient library, veiled in the dust of centuries and heavy with the echoes of history, Dr. Sarah "Sully" Sullivan and her late father, William III, made a discovery that would irrevocably change their destinies. Nestled among neglected manuscripts was a curious artifact, as substantial as a tome of ancient lore, its facade etched with arcane symbols. At its center, the Ouroboros, a serpent ceaselessly chasing its own tail, coiled around the Tree of Life, its boughs and roots interlaced with cryptic runic messages. These inscriptions hinted at catastrophic events—earthquakes, deluges, infernos—mirroring the burgeoning calamities of their era.

Beneath this veneer, however, was concealed a truth even more profound. Employing the university's advanced electron microscope, Sully and her father unveiled the long-lost Prophecy of Bernard of Clairvaux, dating back to the 12th century. This prophecy unveiled a chilling foresight of the future, uncannily akin to contemporary predicaments. It envisioned a realm ravaged by social disintegration, ethical erosion, and ecological ruin. Bernard's visionary words depicted an era overwhelmed by "Towers of Babel"—metaphors for the burgeoning internet and swiftly evolving AI, emblematic of rampant urban sprawl and technological progress, heedless of nature's equilibrium. His prescient visions painted a portrait of humanity teetering on the edge, besieged by destitution, environmental decay, and substance dependency.

Yet, within Bernard's cryptic words lay a glimmer of hope — a suggestion of a hidden key to avert the looming apocalypse, a solution buried within the annals of time, waiting for those who knew where to look.

For Sully, this revelation was more than a scholarly triumph; it was a rude awakening. A chance to uncover the ancient secrets that could save civilization from the pending apocalypse.

Book 4. "Bloodline of Divinity":

Synopsis:

The Templars were not just guardians of treasures but also protectors of a sacred bloodline—that of Jesus. Sully's journey in Book 4, to uncover the Templar’s involvement and interest in the doomsday event, takes her to a remote village in Spain, believed to be a Templar refuge.

The story (after the scary chapter) opens in the remote Monastery of Santa María de Sigena in Spain, Sully embarks on a quest to uncover Templar secrets and the rumored bloodline of Christ. Welcomed by Bishop Ignatius Moros and guided by Sister Maria, Sully delves into ancient texts and artifacts, navigating a labyrinth of false clues and deceptive leads. As she deciphers symbols in a forgotten wing, Sully discovers a coded language pointing to a hidden chamber within the monastery, believed to house an artifact linked to the bloodline of Christ.

Sully faces a series of riddles, each leading her closer to the hidden chamber. From the Riddle of the Three Virtues to the Echoing Halls Riddle, she employs her expertise in symbology, eventually uncovering the entrance to a secret chamber. Inside, she finds a box containing parchments that could rewrite history, potentially linked to Christ's lineage. However, her discovery is interrupted by Bishop Moros and the Swiss Guard, who seize the artifacts and imprison Sully in the chamber.

In a dramatic turn, Sister Maria reveals herself as the last of the Templar bloodline and rescues Sully. Together, they navigate the monastery's secret passages, escaping with the help of the local villagers. Maria entrusts Sully with a Templar compass and information, setting her on a new path of discovery.

The story culminates with Sully standing on the threshold of a deeper truth, armed with the compass and a new lead that will take her to the sea, promising further adventures in unraveling the Templar mysteries. This suspenseful tale, rich in historical intrigue and unexpected alliances, leaves readers eagerly anticipating the next chapter in Sully's journey.

Opening scary chapter:

The story opens in the Monastery of Santa María de Sigena, located in the remote Aragon region of Spain. Bishop Ignatius Moros stands solemnly in the dimly lit chamber of the Monastery of Santa María de Sigena, his figure casting an imposing shadow against the ancient stone walls. The Prelate, a figure of equal authority, faces him with a stern warning. "Sully is closer than we thought to uncovering the bloodline," he said, his voice echoing slightly in the cold, vast room. Moros's face remaines impassive, his eyes unblinking. He nods in silent agreement.

As the Prelate's footsteps recede down the long, echoing corridor, Moros turns towards the stained-glass window, his gaze piercing through the colorful depiction of biblical tales. He whispers to himself, a sinister smile barely perceptible, "She won't find what she's expecting."

In the monastery's secluded courtyard, under the cover of twilight, Moros slowly paces. His mind a whirlwind of plots, each more devious than the last. He stops, looks up at the starless sky, a plan crystallizing in his mind. He will ignore the words of the Prelate to be wary of her. He will instead welcome Sully, offer her guidance, be the mentor she didn't know she needed. And if she unearth new found secrets, he will be there, ready to seize it. Ready to bury it and Sully forever.

The final scene unfolds in the monastery's crypt, where Moros stands alone among the tombs of long-forgotten monks and hushed indiscretions. He lights a single candle, its flickering light casting eerie shadows on his face. "The truth," he whispers, "will die with her." The flame reflected in his eyes, reveals a glimpse of the zealot's fervor burning within.

(The Monastery of Santa María de Sigena, located in the region of Aragon. This monastery, founded in the 12th century, has a connection to the Templars, who were known to have a significant presence in Aragon during the medieval period. The monastery's secluded location and its rich history, intertwined with the Templar Order, make it an ideal setting for the discovery of a Templar Codex.

Santa María de Sigena, with its austere Romanesque architecture and frescoed interiors, offers the perfect backdrop for a narrative filled with ancient secrets and historical intrigue. Its remote setting in the Spanish countryside adds to the sense of isolation and mystery, aligning well with the concept of a Templar refuge. The ambiance of the monastery, steeped in history and surrounded by the natural beauty of the Aragonese landscape)

Chapters:

Sully arrives alone at the Monastery of Santa María de Sigena, driven by her quest to uncover Templar secrets and the rumored bloodline of Christ. Her arrival is marked by a blend of anticipation and the underlying danger that pervades her quest.

Bishop Ignatius Moros welcomes Sully. Despite his stern and resolute demeanor, Moros offers to help Sully, presenting himself as a mentor and tells her he will support her in every way. She must just promise to not cause harm to the church, a request she's happy to agree to (*though, already, she is leery of this man). He first gives her a tour of the monastery and leaves her alone in the massive library but not before introducing Sully to Sister Maria, a nun who will escort Sully and be her guide.

Sully spends days meticulously examines ancient texts and artifacts, piecing together fragments of a larger puzzle. Maria is always there to help. Her apparent benign nature and curiosity about the Templar Codex and Baphomet make her a frequent presence around Sully. Sully, sensing a kindred spirit, shares insights from her research with her, hoping for spiritual insight. (*This is where you should foreshadow the idea that while Sully is making friends with Maria, she’s also wary. She’s been burned before. There’s something suspicious about Maria and Sully cannot put her finger on it.)

(*Hint: lead your readers down the path of “knowing” that Sully is going to get screwed by Maria. Do it subtly enough the readers think they are clever. In the end, the opposite turns out to be true which is where our big-end twist comes into play.)

Sully's Discovery:

Sully's path is riddled with false clues and starts, a deliberate design by those who came before to mislead and deter seekers. She carefully distinguishes genuine leads from the deceptive ones, using her knowledge of Templar history and symbology. *Here is a good opportunity to build tension and fast pacing as each build up to uncovering a secret turns into a dead end. Add in a few Templar traps like: Hidden Pressure Plates, Booby trapped Templar Guardian Statues, Puzzle Locks, Poisoned Chalices, False Tombs and Catacombs)

As Sully deciphers more about the hidden chamber (*backstory, in the intro we use a flashback memory of Sully being told or discovering a clue that the 4th Codex is in a hidden chamber.) After many false leads she stumbles upon symbols in a forgotten wing of the monastery, a section less traversed, where the air hangs heavy with the scent of ancient stone and neglect. The symbols are etched into the walls of a narrow corridor, barely visible under centuries of dust and cobwebs and more modern etchings covering the ancient ones. She points these out to Sister Maria who is surprised. She’s walked past these for years but never noticed what it is she’s noticing.

The symbols are unlike any Templar inscriptions known to Sully. They are a complex amalgamation of geometric patterns and archaic script, seemingly a fusion of different cultures – perhaps a blend of Middle Eastern influences with traditional Christian iconography. The symbols are arranged in a seemingly chaotic manner, yet Sully senses a deliberate pattern in their placement. The two of them get to work carefully cleaning the stones to reveal what lies below. Here's an image of what they are seeing.

Sully employs her symbology expertise to decode the symbols. She photographs them and sketches them meticulously in her journal (*turns out she has discovered that hand drawing them better connects her brain to the images), cross-referencing with known Templar symbols and ancient scripts. Over days of intense study, with Maria helping, the two discovers that the symbols are not just decorative but form a coded language. *Here’s another good place to foreshadow some suspicion of Maria’s real intent. Maybe throw in the bishop coming in to see and when he sees the symbols his face turns red and he gets angry – then in an obvious cover up of his emotions, he tries to smile. Meanwhile, Maria is hard to read.

*Another idea, perhaps insert a chapter here of the Prelate calling the bishop and asking how it’s going. The bishop lies and says Sully’s found nothing. Something we know isn’t true.

Late one night in her small guest room in the monastery, using her computer whose internet access was a gift from Maria (that in the end allows her to monitor her every page she sees) she figures out that the symbols, when deciphered, reveal a series of riddles and instructions. They speak of a hidden chamber within the monastery, accessible only to those who can understand the sacred language of the Templars. The chamber is said to house an artifact of great power, possibly linked to the bloodline of Christ.

Riddles

1.     Riddle of the Three Virtues: The first riddle she finds speaks of the Templar virtues of Faith, Hope, and Charity. It reads, "In faith’s embrace, hope’s journey, and charity’s path, the seeker shall find the light." Sully interprets this as a clue to follow a specific route within the monastery, beginning at a chapel dedicated to faith, leading through cloisters symbolizing hope, and ending at an alms box used for charity. This leads to:

2.     The Guardians' Riddle: This riddle involves a series of statues of knights, each holding different shields. The inscription reads, "He who guards the sacred, holds the key in his heart." Sully realizes that the key is not literal but symbolic. She examines the shields and finds that the arrangement of symbols on one particular shield points to a specific section of the monastery. Which leads to:

3.     The Architectural mystery: A riddle embedded in the monastery's architecture itself states, "Where stone lips whisper secrets of old, the silent tongue points to the hidden gold." Sully discovers a series of stone figures with intricately carved mouths. Upon closer examination, she finds one figure with a slightly protruding tongue, pointing towards a seemingly innocuous wall, which hides a concealed entrance. Which leads to:

4.     The Cipher of Elements: This riddle involves a mosaic depicting the four elements - earth, air, fire, and water. The inscription says, "Only when the elements are in harmony, the way forward opens." Sully recognizes that this refers to adjusting the mosaic pieces in a way that symbolically balances the four elements, unlocking a secret compartment. She photographs them then, in her computer, rearranges them to make sense.

5.     The Echoing Halls Riddle: "In halls that echo with the Templar’s tread, seek where echoes cannot reach." This riddle leads Sully to a secluded part of the monastery, an area insulated from sound, where she discovers an ancient door, well-hidden from casual observation. Andre is stunned. He has been searching for this forever. They go through the door, expecting to find the hidden chamber but, instead, it leads to a dead end. Mystified for a moment Sully realizes there must be something here. A clue, perhaps. Then she finds it. The final riddle.

6.     Final Riddle: The last riddle before the chamber says, "In the heart of the Order, under the gaze of the Holy, the treasure lies." This points Sully to the central chapel of the monastery, beneath a specific mosaic of a religious figure. The 'heart' is a cryptic reference to the central location, and 'under the gaze' indicates something hidden in plain sight, below the mosaic.

__________________

As Sully stands in the central chapel of the Monastery of Santa María de Sigena, her resolve is mirrored in Sister Maria's watchful presence. Maria is quiet, a sentinel in robes, yet her eyes betray a deep curiosity – the same that once endeared her to Sully. The final riddle, "In the heart of the Order, under the gaze of the Holy, the treasure lies," Sully repeats, her gaze fixed on the Madonna mosaic. Maria moves closer, her voice a low whisper, "Look not only with your eyes, Dr. Sullivan, but with your faith."

Sully steps carefully on the cold stone floor, her eyes scanning every inch of the space. The mosaic of a religious figure—the Madonna, crowned and serene—watches over the chapel. Sully's instincts tell her this is the place. She approaches the mosaic, running her fingers over the tiles that have witnessed centuries of whispered prayers. There, she finds a tile that seems minutely out of place, a slight aberration only a trained eye would catch. She searches for more. Maria gets on her knees and helps. They find one more.

They must be pressed together, Sully surmises (*otherwise, footsteps over the years would have triggered the opening). Her heart races as they together gently presses the tiles, activating the ancient mechanism that soon will reveal the hidden passage. It gives way with a faint click, the sound of secrets unlocking. A section of the mosaic wall behind them shifts, revealing a narrow opening. Sully gazes into the darkness beyond, a mix of triumph and apprehension flickering across her face. *Great cliffhanger end of the chapter.

With a deep breath, she retrieves a flashlight from her bag and steps into the hidden passage. Maria accompanies Sully into the passage, her familiarity with the monastery's secrets providing comfort against the creeping unease of the dark, tight corridor. As cobwebs give way to the musty air of the secret chamber, Maria's presence is a silent anchor in the tangible history enveloping them.

The passage twists and turns, delving deeper into the monastery's heart. Finally, it opens into a chamber so small it feels like an afterthought to the grandeur above. But Sully knows better. Here, in this hidden sanctum, lies the artifact that has eluded so many for so long.

In the center of the chamber rests a stone pedestal, and on it, shrouded in velvet cloth aged to the color of dusk, the artifact awaits. Sully approaches, hands trembling with anticipation. She lifts the cloth, and the chamber is filled with a soft, otherworldly glow. The artifact is not a chalice or a scroll, but something far more intimate—a small, intricately carved box, its surfaces etched with symbols that seem to resonate with the very air in the chamber.

Sully knows she has found a relic of the Templars, perhaps a testament to the bloodline of Christ itself. She opens the box with reverence, and inside, she finds a collection of parchments, brittle with age. The writing upon them is in a cipher that speaks of lineages and legacies, of secrets kept and histories hidden. The 4th Codex, but not the Chalice.

The documents are fragile, their edges curled with the passage of time, inscribed with texts that could rewrite history. With hands that respect the weight of their content, Sully examines the parchments, and Maria leans in, her knowledge as a nun providing a sacred context to the secular discoveries.

Before they can whisper their theories and conclusions, the silence shatters. Bishop Moros, flanked by two Swiss Guard soldiers in their distinctive regalia, bursts into the chamber. The sudden intrusion is a cold shock, slicing through the chamber's tranquility like a blade. *This is where you can magnify the idea that Maria was setting Sully up. Sully glares at Maria who only lowers her eyes, proving to Sully her worst suspicions were accurate.

Moros' eyes are alight with triumph as he approaches and plucks the documents from Sully's grasp. "My thanks, Dr. Sullivan," he says, his voice a mixture of gratitude and malice. "Your work here is done."

Turning to Sister Maria, his tone shifts, "Return to your quarters, Sister. We will discuss your... collaboration later." His words hang heavy with unspoken threats, and with a resigned nod, Maria silently acquiesces.

As Maria exits, Moros signals the guards, who step forward with a professionalism that chills the air. They point their guns at Sully, their expressions unreadable behind ceremonial helmets.

Sully watches as Moros tucks the ancient parchments and box inside his coat, a wolf guarding his prize. The guards loom over her, their presence an unyielding barrier between her and the freedom to pursue the truth. They lock her inside, the door closing with a click. She’s now in total darkness.

The chamber, once a sanctuary of enlightenment, becomes Sully's prison, the stone walls witnesses to the theft of knowledge and the silencing of discovery.

Near-Death Escape:

Cornered and with no avenue for retreat and no chance of help, Sully desperately searches her surroundings for an exit, her heart racing. Then, she remembers. The Amulet. She reaches under her shirt to expose the amulet. She squeezes the jewel in the middle and suddenly the room is flooded with light.

Her mind races, searching for an escape, any exit overlooked in the adrenaline-fueled moments of her capture. But as the amulet's glow wanes, so does her hope. The walls seem to draw closer, the silence of the ancient monastery pressing down upon her.

Then, a sound—a subtle shift in the stillness, footsteps. Sully’s breath hitches. Is it Moros, returning to finish what he started? The soldiers? She releases the amulet, surrendering its meager light, and braces against the cold stone, ready to fight for her life in the engulfing dark.

The footsteps draw nearer, deliberate, unhurried. Sully's muscles tense, every sense straining in the pitch black. But then, a familiar softness touches the air, a presence that is not Moros'. "Sully?" The voice, barely a whisper, is unmistakably Maria's.

Relief surges through Sully. How? Why? It is then that Maria reveals her staggering truth. "I am the one they the Templars have sworn to protect—the last of the bloodline," she confesses. Her words hang in the air, a revelation as profound as the ancient secrets Sully has dedicated her life to uncovering.

The twist reshapes everything. Maria, a woman who embodied the mundane, is the living testament to the Templars' centuries-old vow. She had chosen obscurity over the dangers that came with her heritage but witnessing Sully’s unwavering pursuit of truth—and the looming threat of Moros—compelled her to act.

"We must hurry," Maria insists, urgency threading her hushed tones.

They navigate the shadowed corridors in silence, Maria leading with a confidence that belies her usual demure demeanor. As they near the exit, a sinking realization dawns on Sully—they are not alone. Moros and his guards, betrayed by their own misplaced trust, block their path.

Cornered, the stark reality of their situation sets in and, as the guards close in, Maria’s eyes flicker with the knowledge of the monastery's secrets. "This way," she whispers to Sully, pulling her towards an unassuming section of the wall. With a deft push against a stone that seems like any other, a panel gives way, revealing a narrow, shadowed passage. "The Templars' escape routes," she breathes, an echo of her ancestors' wisdom.

They slip through just as Moros lunges forward, the panel closing silently behind them. Maria pulls a heavy iron bar across the door to stop them from being followed.

In the labyrinthine passageway, their hurried steps are hushed, a quiet rebellion against the pursuit they know is close behind. The guards' muffled shouts reverberate through the stone as Sully and Maria navigate the ancient escape route, a path walked by Templars in peril long ago. (*the guards have found another entrance and here you write a heart-pounding chase scene)

Emerging from the secret passage, they find themselves on the outskirts of the village. Maria’s presence as one of their own is their shield; the villagers, recognizing the nun among them, offer sanctuary and misdirection. With furtive glances and hushed tones, they guide Sully and Maria through back alleys and hidden paths, away from the clutches of the Swiss Guard.

As they reach the safety of a secluded grove, the adrenaline of their flight subsides, and Maria turns to Sully. Her face, illuminated by the moonlight, is a tapestry of strength and vulnerability. She speaks, her voice a steady stream weaving the story of her life—a life marked by the silent guardianship of her lineage, a lineage stretching back to the sacred bloodline the Templars protected.

Her story concludes as dawn paints the sky with the first light of day, and with a solemn gesture, Maria hands Sully an ancient Templar artifact - a maritime compass engraved with cryptic symbols. She also gives Sully the name and contact information for Captain Elias Demetriou, a Cyprus based sea captain that she must convince to take her on a journey.

"This is your path now," Maria says, her eyes meeting Sully's. "The bloodline's legacy, the Templars' secrets—they're part of you as much as they are of me."

With the compass in hand, Sully understands the weight of her next journey. She stands at the precipice of a deeper truth, with the last of the Templar bloodline beside her, a bond formed by shared secrets and a shared escape.

The last chapter is a cliffhanger. Sully leaves Maria as quickly as she can and in a sneaky way so Moros and the boys who are hunting her don’t catch her. Just as she thinks her disguise is working (maybe she dresses as a nun? We get a scary first glimpse of Father Damien lurking in the shadows. He’s tracking her every move. We leave off with him reporting to The Order that he’s got her in his sights. She won’t escape him…leaving readers hanging.

Connection to Book 5:

Reeling from nearly being killed by Moros and the Swiss Guards and making a narrow escape thanks to Sister Maria, Sully is given by Maria an ancient Templar artifact - a maritime compass engraved with cryptic symbols. Recognizing its significance, she realizes it could be a clue pointing to the Templar fleet's lost treasures. Determined to honor her father's legacy and continue the journey they started together, she sets sail in search of the mysterious Templar fleet, the waves echoing with tales of treasure and secrets waiting to be unearthed.

Antagonist: Bishop Ignatius Moros

Bishop Ignatius Moros, presents a commanding presence. His appearance is marked by the traditional vestments of a bishop in the Catholic Church, including the amice, alb, stole, chasuble, mitre, crosier, ring, and pectoral cross, each holding symbolic significance in representing the bishop's role, authority, and commitment in the Church.

Moros's face conveys his unyielding nature and the fervent zeal behind his actions. His expression is stern and resolute, reflecting his unwavering conviction and the intense seriousness with which he approaches his divine mission. This sternness is etched into his features, suggesting a life dedicated to strict adherence to doctrine and the ruthless pursuit of his goals.

His eyes, piercing and intense, seem to scrutinize everything around him, indicative of a mind constantly evaluating and strategizing. These eyes, perhaps, are his most striking feature, as they hold a depth that speaks of both intelligence and an unsettling degree of fanaticism.

His hair is kept neatly groomed, in line with his meticulous attention to his public image and the aura of sanctity he strives to maintain. However, there's an unmistakable air of authority and power that he carries, an aura that extends beyond his ecclesiastical garb.

Bishop Moros's appearance is a blend of the dignified, traditional garb of a high-ranking church official and the intense, almost ominous air of a man driven by a dangerous and unwavering conviction.

Moros is a figure of complex duality. On the surface, he was once a highly influential member of the Catholic Church, renowned for his charismatic sermons and his unwavering adherence to church doctrine. This facade of sanctity, however, masks a far more sinister aspect of his character.

Moros is, in truth, a ruthless zealot. His conviction is unyielding, and he is driven by an intense desire to eradicate anything he perceives as blasphemous. In his eyes, the very notion of a bloodline descending from Jesus Christ is not just a threat but an affront to God—a heresy that, if left unchecked, could shake the foundations of Christianity itself.

Moros was sent out of the Vatican to the remote village Monastery of San Ignacio de Valdecruces as a punishment for his ruthless violence and condemnation of all he sees as wrong. The Pope personally made certain of his removal and banishment to the small, out of the way village. Moros continues to believe he is in the right and deludes himself into believing he has been sent here to guard the Grail secrets—an honored mission by the Pope himself.

This belief isn't a mere fight for power or influence for Moros; it's a divine mission. As mentioned, he sees himself as a guardian of the Church's sanctity, tasked with preserving its teachings at all costs. His methods are extreme and unflinching. Upon learning of Dr. Sarah "Sully" Sullivan's discovery of a possible bloodline descending from Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene, Moros views it as his duty to eliminate both her and her findings. His approach is not just aggressive but also secretive, employing a clandestine faction within the Church known for executing covert operations and assassinations.

Moros's character embodies a fervent belief in the divine right and duty, which he uses to justify his extreme actions. This unwavering devotion to his perceived mission makes him a formidable and dangerous adversary in the series, particularly against Sully's quest for truth and knowledge.

Maria The Last Descendant:

Sister Maria, is an unassuming nun, one of a dozen or so at the monastery. She has been assigned to guide and be a companion to Sully while Sully tries to uncover the Templar's secrets. Her demeanor, composed and unpretentious, belies the magnitude of her heritage as the last living descendant of the sacred bloodline. But, we won't know that until the end of the story. That's our big twist.

Physical Description:

Maria's visage reflects a beauty that does not call for attention yet holds a story as deep as history itself. Her dark hair, perhaps touched with curls, cascades down her shoulders, unbound and unrestrained, mirroring her newfound freedom from the shadows. Her clothing, though modest, is chosen with intent, practical, and unadorned, echoing her commitment to a life veiled from the world's gaze.

Her eyes are wells of wisdom, aged by the knowledge of her ancestry yet sparkling with the courage that lineage bestows. Her stance speaks of a silent resilience, the quiet power of one who has carried a heavy legacy. Despite the humble trappings, an innate elegance emanates from her, the legacy of her bloodline manifesting in the understated grace with which she moves and speaks.

Backstory:

Maria has walked a path of anonymity, her awareness of her lineage instilling a need for concealment amidst a world that would seek to exploit or destroy such a revelation. She has moved among the villagers not as a figure shrouded in mystery but as one of their own, her secret guarded by the very ordinariness of her existence.

The catalyst for her emergence from the veil of obscurity is the peril faced by Sully and the dire machinations of Moros. Compelled by a sense of kinship with Sully's relentless search for truth, and the imminent threat that now shadows them both, Maria steps forward into the light. Her revelation reshapes the narrative, shocking those within and beyond the story's bounds, and cements the Templars' triumph across the ages.

The Maritime Compass Maria gives Sully:

The maritime compass is a relic steeped in the mysterious history of the Knights Templar, crafted in the 12th century. Made from bronze, it has acquired a greenish patina, indicative of its age and the oxidation processes it has undergone over centuries. This patina also highlights the detailed workmanship of the engravings, which are not merely decorative but serve a dual purpose as both functional navigational aids and conveyors of deeper, perhaps esoteric knowledge.

The compass is encircled by cryptic symbols, each meticulously etched, perhaps signifying ranks, locations, or secrets known only to the Templars. The Templar cross, a symbol of the order, signifies their purported role as both warriors and guardians of sacred artifacts. Astrological signs point to a time when celestial navigation was aided by a deep understanding of the stars and planets. Runic scripts suggest influences or interactions with cultures of the northern European regions, where such characters were prevalent.

The compass rose at its center is a masterpiece of precision, with each point representing the classical directions and winds, reflecting the Templars' maritime prowess. This was likely a valuable tool for the order, known for its naval capabilities, enabling them to traverse the Mediterranean to various outposts across Europe and the Middle East.

The history of the compass may well intertwine with the Templars' rumored involvement in the Crusades and their quest for holy relics. Some speculate that such artifacts could have been used to chart courses to secret destinations, possibly to transport and hide treasures or relics like the Holy Grail. Given the Templars' sudden fall from grace and the subsequent dispersion and persecution of its members, items like this compass might have been hidden or lost, only to resurface as rare historical treasures with stories veiled in mystery.

Historical info to use as you wish

(remember, the more history and facts used the more believable the story)

1. Mary Magdalene's Legacy: According to some legends and interpretations of apocryphal texts, Mary Magdalene is thought to have had a special relationship with Jesus Christ, with some speculative accounts suggesting she might have been his wife and had children, thus starting a sacred bloodline.

Biblical Accounts and Gnostic Gospels: In the canonical New Testament, Mary Magdalene is depicted as a prominent disciple of Jesus Christ, present during his crucifixion and the first to witness his resurrection. However, it is the Gnostic texts, such as the Gospel of Mary, found in the 19th century, that contribute to the idea of her intimate relationship with Jesus. These texts suggest a spiritual closeness that led some to conjecture a marital relationship, though such interpretations are highly contested and not accepted by mainstream Christian doctrine.

Medieval Legends and the Bloodline: During the Middle Ages, legends concerning Mary Magdalene's life after the events depicted in the New Testament began to circulate. One such legend posits that after the crucifixion, Mary Magdalene, along with other followers of Jesus, fled persecution in Judea and sailed to Gaul, now modern-day France. Here, she is said to have lived out her days, and according to some versions of this legend, raised a child. This child, or children, as some versions suggest, is the supposed beginning of a bloodline that would carry divine significance.

Mary Magdalene in France: The French region of Provence is rich with traditions that venerate Mary Magdalene. The Basilica of Saint Mary Magdalene in Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume is claimed to house her relics, and the Sainte-Baume mountains are home to a cave where she is said to have spent the remainder of her life in contemplation. These sites have become pilgrimage destinations for those drawn to her story and the mysteries associated with her.

The Merovingian Dynasty: Speculation about Mary Magdalene's bloodline is often linked to the Merovingian dynasty, a line of Frankish kings who ruled parts of Gaul and Germany from the 5th to 8th centuries. Some theories, popularized by books like "Holy Blood, Holy Grail," propose that the Merovingian line was descended from the union of Jesus and Mary Magdalene, suggesting that this dynasty carried the blood of Christ. This concept has been widely dismissed by scholars as a conspiracy theory, yet it persists in popular culture.

The Sacred Feminine and the Grail: In esoteric interpretations, Mary Magdalene is often associated with the Sacred Feminine and the Holy Grail, the latter being metaphorically linked to her as the bearer of Jesus' bloodline. This association has been explored in various fictional narratives, where the 'Grail' is represented not as a physical chalice but as a symbol of the divine bloodline or wisdom passed down through generations.

The Role of the Templars: The Knights Templar, renowned for their role in the Crusades and as guardians of untold secrets, are sometimes claimed to have been protectors of the descendants of this bloodline. Although historical evidence does not support this claim, the story provides a compelling narrative, tying the Templars to the mystery of Mary Magdalene and the supposed sacred lineage.

2. The Templar Refuge in Spain: Expanding on the historical context of the Templar refuge in Spain after the persecution:

In 1307, when King Philip IV of France instigated the fall of the Knights Templar, he did so under charges of heresy, spurious allegations that were largely seen as a means to seize the wealth and assets of the order. The abrupt dissolution left many Templars with no choice but to flee, seeking asylum where the influence of the French crown was weak or non-existent.

Spain, at the time, was a patchwork of Christian and Muslim territories engaged in the Reconquista. The Templars had been instrumental in this effort, having helped the Christian kingdoms in battles and fortifying positions. Their influence in places like the Kingdom of Aragon and the Kingdom of Castile meant that some regions were more welcoming to the fleeing knights.

Specifically, the region that would become an enduring refuge for the Templars was in the Kingdom of Aragon. Under the rule of King James II, an ally to the Templars, the knights found relative safety. One of the most notable places of refuge was the Castle of Monzón in Huesca, Aragon. This stronghold was a Templar fortress before the persecution and served as a sanctuary for those escaping France's grasp.

The Templars who settled in this region were able to integrate into the local society, albeit discreetly. They were reputed to have brought with them their relics, documents, and wealth. It's said that they continued their practices in secret, passing on their knowledge and traditions in hidden chambers and secluded chapels.

In the village of Montségur in the Languedoc region, near the foothills of the Pyrenees, the Templars found a natural fortress. The Cathar stronghold, which would later fall in 1244, was rumored to have been a place where the Templars hid their treasures before the fall of the Cathars to the Inquisition. This event, occurring decades before the Templar persecution, set a precedent for how the Templars would later hide and transport their sacred objects.

The Templars were also known to have established a network of monasteries and commanderies across Spain. These establishments often served as fronts for their activities and as safe houses for those on the run. The Monastery of Santa María de la Valldigna in Valencia is one such example, where the Templars are believed to have hidden and maintained some of their sacred texts and possibly clues to the whereabouts of the bloodline they were sworn to protect.

Through these networks and strongholds, the remnants of the Templar order in Spain managed to preserve their heritage and protect their secrets.

3. The Templar Codices: The Templars are often associated with possessing various secret documents and codices, some of which are said to contain knowledge of ancient wisdom, hidden treasures, and potentially the details of the bloodline of Jesus Christ.

The Templar Codices are often thought to be a collection of texts that include religious scriptures, philosophical treatises, and detailed records of the Templar's activities. These would have likely been written in Latin or potentially in other contemporary languages and scripts, including those of the regions where the Templars had influence, such as the Levant. The codices are said to contain:

·      Theological interpretations that may differ from orthodox Christian teachings.

·      Philosophical musings that incorporate the insights of the early mystics and perhaps even the knowledge from the Islamic world and the Kabbalistic tradition.

·      Detailed accounts of the Templars' military campaigns, strategies, and alliances.

·      Records of financial transactions and inventories of treasures that were under Templar protection.

·      Maps and documents that detail the locations of hidden treasures, both material and spiritual.

There are rumors of specific codices that hold particular importance:

·      A codex that purportedly records the Templars' understanding of the Holy Grail, which could symbolize a range of things from an actual relic to coded information about the bloodline of Christ.

·      A codex allegedly containing the secret rituals and initiation rites of the Templars, which might have included Gnostic elements and references to the sacred feminine.

·      A codex that is said to detail the lineage of the Merovingian kings and its purported connection to the bloodline of Mary Magdalene and Jesus Christ.

4. Doomsday Prophecies and the Templars: The Templars have been linked to various prophecies, including those about the end of days. Their supposed role in safeguarding certain knowledge or relics could be tied to beliefs about preventing or preparing for doomsday events.

The Templars and Apocalyptic Thought: The period during which the Templars rose to prominence was rife with apocalyptic expectation. The year 1000 AD had passed, and with it, many millenarian predictions had failed to materialize. However, this did not quell the fears; instead, it led to a pervasive belief in an imminent end of the world, further fueled by the Crusades, which were seen as a battle against the forces of evil in anticipation of the Last Judgment.

The Prophecy of the Last Templar Grand Master: Jacques de Molay, the last Grand Master of the Templars, is said to have uttered a curse or prophecy at the time of his execution, foretelling the doom of those who wronged the order. This curse has been romanticized and interpreted as a sort of apocalyptic warning, adding to the mystique of the Templars' supposed knowledge of the end times.

The Book of Revelation and Templar Symbolism: The Templars are often linked to the imagery and prophecies contained in the Book of Revelation, the final book of the New Testament, which describes the apocalypse. Their use of symbols such as the lamb, the red cross, and the horsemen may have been imbued with eschatological significance, representing their role as divine warriors in the final battle between good and evil.

The Temple of Solomon and End Times: The Templars' name itself derives from their original headquarters at the Al-Aqsa Mosque on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, which they believed was built on the ruins of the Temple of Solomon. This site is laden with end-time prophecies, as it is believed to be where the final events leading to the apocalypse would unfold. The Templars' connection to this place, therefore, placed them at the heart of eschatological mythos.

The Templar Treasure and the Apocalypse: There is speculation that the Templars may have discovered relics or texts beneath the Temple Mount that contained prophetic revelations or that they came into possession of artifacts like the Holy Grail or the Ark of the Covenant, which had apocalyptic importance. The alleged loss of the Templar treasure and the subsequent theories about its contents have often been tied to doomsday scenarios.

Secrets and Safeguards: It is conjectured that the Templars safeguarded secrets that could either bring about or prevent the apocalypse. These secrets might have included:

  • The true lineage of Jesus Christ, as some believed that revealing this could challenge the established Church and cause a religious upheaval.

  • The location and contents of the Templar treasure, which might have had the power to influence the course of history.

  • Knowledge of celestial alignments and their supposed impact on earthly events, a common theme in doomsday prophecies.

The Templar Legacy in Doomsday Cultures:

Over time, the dissolution of the Templar Order and the mystery surrounding their fate have been absorbed into various doomsday cults and conspiracy theories. The Templars are sometimes portrayed as having known the exact date of the end of the world and having made preparations to protect the sacred bloodline or knowledge that would be needed to rebuild the world after the apocalypse.

Here is the information about the Spanish village the story takes place in

Village of Valdecruces:

Tucked away in the rugged Sierra Morena mountains of Andalusia, Valdecruces is a quaint village that time forgot. With its narrow cobblestone streets winding between ancient stone houses, this hamlet exudes an air of mystery. The central plaza boasts a weathered fountain, said to have been constructed by the Templars themselves, with engravings that have baffled historians for generations. The village is overshadowed by a once-majestic castle ruin that looms on the nearby hilltop, reputed to be a former Templar stronghold. Despite its peaceful appearance, the villagers guard their history with a touch of secrecy, a legacy of their ancestors who provided sanctuary to the Templars in their time of need. The local church, a Romanesque structure with unusual Gothic modifications, contains hidden compartments and a cryptic altar piece which some believe holds clues to the Templar legacy. Valdecruces is surrounded by dense forests that hide caves rumored to have served as meeting points for the Templars, possibly containing the entrances to lost tunnels where sacred artifacts or documents could be hidden.
